About Timber Roots

Welcome to Timber Roots, where craftsmanship, natural materials and thoughtful design come together.

My name is Kim, and I am the founder, designer and craftsman behind Timber Roots.

In 2022, my wife, our daughter and I immigrated to Canada to begin a new chapter in our lives. Surrounded by Canada's natural beauty, I rediscovered a long-standing passion for woodworking.

Timber Roots began with a simple project: building a cedar planter for my wife, an enthusiastic gardener. I wanted to create something that was attractive, strong and practical, but also different from the typical planter held together with visible brackets, bolts and metal frames.

That first project eventually became the foundation of Timber Roots.

Today, I handcraft cedar planters, hardwood cutting boards and other wood products here in Ontario, with the same emphasis on quality, functionality and attention to detail that went into that first planter.

At Timber Roots, we believe that quality begins with good materials and careful workmanship.

Rather than mass production, we focus on small-batch craftsmanship and products designed to provide years of everyday use.

Our cedar planters are made from premium Western Red Cedar and feature a distinctive precision-cut interlocking construction. The components fit together without a visible metal framework, creating a strong, clean design that can be assembled without complicated tools or hardware.

Our cutting and charcuterie boards are individually handcrafted from carefully selected hardwoods including Black Walnut, Maple and Cherry, allowing the natural grain and character of the wood to remain part of the finished piece.

No two pieces of timber are exactly alike — and that individuality is something we celebrate.

Thoughtful Design

A Timber Roots product should do more than look good.

Our products are designed around practical everyday use.

For our cedar planters, that means generous growing space, naturally durable timber, effective drainage, optional mobility and straightforward assembly.

For our cutting boards and hardwood homeware, it means combining durability, practical proportions and the natural beauty of real wood.

We continually refine our products based on how they are actually used, rather than simply following mass-market designs.

Natural Materials

Wood is at the heart of Timber Roots.

For our outdoor planters, we use Western Red Cedar because of its natural resistance to moisture, decay and insects, as well as its dimensional stability and distinctive appearance.

For kitchen and home products, we work with premium hardwoods selected for their durability, grain and character.

Using quality materials and building products intended to last is central to the Timber Roots philosophy.

Every Timber Roots product is made with personal involvement in the workshop here in Ontario.

Being a small Canadian business allows us to pay attention to details that can easily disappear in large-scale production.
